Like Schoenberg, Geroge Gershwin was also an amateur painter.

Gershwin with his portrait of Arnold Schoenberg

The Gershwin-Schoenberg friendship is quite an interesting one. Gershwin apparently always hounded Schoenberg for composition lessons; Schoenberg always refused saying, "I would only make you a second-rate Schoenberg, and you are such a good Gershwin already." Evidently, their relationship was one of deep respect as demonstrated by Schoenberg's remarks on Gershwin's death: hear them.

Among Gershwin's paintings are a self-portrait as well.
George's brother, the lyricist Ira Gershwin, also was an amateur painter. Here is his self-portrait.
